Private blog network

A private blog network (PBN) is a set of sites operated mainly to pass links to money pages. Operators may reuse expired domains, thin articles, and footprint templates. Selling or buying PBN links is a classic link scheme pattern under Google's spam policies.

Why it matters

PBNs create artificial authority. When detected, the links can be discounted and the participating sites can face ranking issues. For site owners who did not buy the links, PBN spam can still appear in a profile as noise or as part of a negative SEO dump. Either way, you need a calm review process rather than automatic mass disavow.

Most sites should not disavow every suspicious blog. Confirm footprints first, request removals when contacts exist, and reserve disavow for clear network spam you cannot clear. Google notes that most sites never need the disavow tool.

PBN-like referring domains often share:

• Near-identical themes, authors, or outbound link blocks.
• Thin posts that exist mainly to host a commercial anchor.
• Clusters of expired or aged domains with little real audience.
• Repeated links across "unrelated" hosts with the same IP or analytics footprints when visible.

Buying PBN links for your own site is a policy risk. Receiving unsolicited PBN links is usually noise unless volume and anchors look coordinated. Document samples before you escalate to outreach or a narrow disavow draft.
